McAfee antivirus vista

I am using AVG 8.0 free antivirus on my Vista laptop...When I went to
the Vista Security center, it said that McAfee antivirus was on...I
uninstalled it when I 1st got my laptop so I could use AVG free(it was
version 7.5) then....how can McAfee antivirus be on if it's not
installed on my laptop??? I check the add/remove programs, and it
didn't show up...just wondering...doesn't seem like a big deal, but
just making sure..

It is a common issue that Security Center thinks an older antivirus is still
installed. It is particularly common when the older antivirus is an
obnoxious invasive one such as McAfee or Norton. You just need to rebuild
the repository.

Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Type the following
command:

winmgmt /salvagerepository

The first time you run this it will fail. It will issue stop commands to
the services causing it to fail. It might take a couple minutes for the
services to shut down. Run the command again and reboot your system.

If the above doesn't work, do the following from an elevated cmd prompt:

net stop winmgmt [enter]
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem [enter]
ren repository repository.old [enter]
net start winmgmt [enter]

Re: McAfee antivirus vista

OK...I did the 2nd commands you posted and now on the cmd prompt it
says the windows management service is started and that it started
successfully..the security center says no antivirus found...so I
clicked on I have an antivirus that I'll monitor myself...I am
assuming all is working right...

Re: McAfee antivirus vista

i had uninstalled a trial version of mcafee i had on my laptop, so i could install a full version that i had recently bought.
i had noticed a few things:
firstly, i put the disk in my pc which is running xp and the installation worked fine.
then i put the disk in my laptop and a blank Mcafee window appeared. at the same time, a Just In Time Debugging window appeared and asked me to select a program to debug with. i have no idea what this is or why the installation is not working.
i have tried the disk with Windows firewall on and off.
another thing i noticed was that in Windows Security, it said that i was running Mcafee Personal Firewall, when Mcafee doesnt exist on my laptop.
i had also tried downloading the software from Mcafees website. when i tried this, the Download Manager worked, but after a Mcafee SecurityCentre window appeared with this on it -- #337332.
could anyone please help me thanks
