| Guest | Avast question I have Avast Home Edition on my Vista laptop. I ran a scan yesterday but this morning the Defender bottom righthand icon had an exclamation mark in it and I'd thought, from using 3 other AV programs before, that Defender doesn't nag if you have other software doing scans? Or do I need to set it to do nothing? Also, when I run the Avast scan, it says in its display (above Type of Current Scan etc) Scan Archive Files: disabled - should it be like that? What does that mean, and if I need to change it, how do I, as I couldn't find anything in the settings. I'm assuming there's no connection between my two questions. Thanks for all response. |

| Guest | Re: Avast question Also, my Avast scanning doesn't pick up cookies like AVG and Norton - is this okay and normal? On Jun 11, 10:11*am, kplumm <kpl...@xxxxxx> wrote:

The setting for archive files is for checking "Inside" things like ZIP files. When you compress a file you change it, so that the "Signature" of a virus inside it will also change. To check it Avast would more or less have to "Unzip" the file first, which takes more time and so they make it optional. I don't know why you can't access it, do you need to register the product? I would not get too concerned about cookies and things, one of the problems with other antivirus products is that they try to be all things to all people, which makes them slow and "Bloated". As for Defender does it need updating or something? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Guest | Re: Avast question Ah-ha - yes, I think possibly it was short of some updates which it now has. Hopefully it was that... Thanks. On Jun 11, 11:42*am, Charlie Tame <char...@xxxxxx> wrote:
