Did Recent Update Change DEP?

All of sudden my laptop is now shutting down IE7 saying it has encountered a
DEP problem where there were no problems before. Are the recent updates
(KB950124 & KB950125) responsible? I can't disable the feature from I see.
How can I get rid of DEP?

Thanks,
Dave

Turning off DEP:
Right click on My Computer
Click on Properties
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Settings button in the Performance section
Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab

Select the item labeled "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and
services only". This, effectively turns off DEP for everything else.

IMO, this isn't what you should do. But, you're old enough, I suppose.

Re: Did Recent Update Change DEP?

Before going to the extreme of turning off DEP you might consider checking to
be sure that the problem isn't being caused by a bad add-on for IE. If you
want to check this possibility, go into the Programs tab of Internet Options
and click on the Manage Add-Ons button. There is a lot of functionality
packed into the ensuing dialogs, so be careful, but also be thorough. You
could try disabling all non-MS add-ons, testing, re-enabling one-at-a-time,
testing, etc.

The fact that DEP is shutting IE7 down is an indication of a fairly serious
problem. I'd fix the problem instead of killing DEP.
