Fsbsr, do you see how I am replying to you and everyone else in this thread
are replying to you? You don't keep posting to your original post with your

Re: Is Defender the problem?

Spybot Search & Destroy will.
Download and install it, then scan in Safe Mode.
All info below.

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5.2 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-virus and Spybot S & D while in Safe Mode.

Enable Windows Defender. Have you installed all Microsoft udates? It seems
that malware is rampant. An updated Defender will help.

Have you downloaded and installed AVG Free 8.0? It now incluces an
anti-spyware facility. Go to the direct download page here:

Re: Is Defender the problem?

Yes, I have updated AVG to 8.0 although I don't like it as much as 7.5. Disabling Windows defender did help speed it up somewhat. And I have done all windows updates except for SP1 for Vista as I have heard there are still some problems which I am hoping to temporarily avoid.
