ASP.NET Machine Account help.

Hello. I recentally decided to switch my normal account to a Standard User. While doing that, I set some account named ASP.NET Machine Account as the admin. Now when I try to run programs that need the UAC prompt, it gives me a promt that I have to enter a password in. I don't know the password for that account. What must I do?

That's a special account that you cannot use, which is for ASP.NET solutions
when they run on the computer. So, don't use that account for anything and
leave it alone.

Re: ASP.NET Machine Account help.

I am not using that account. I am using my Standard Account (with was Admin but changed to Standard after some suggestion). I can not log into ASP.NET because it does not show up on the log-in screen. I cannot get past any UAC prompts because it ask for ASP.NET's password which I do not know. I'm asking how I can solve this by either creating another admin account and degrading ASP.NET to standard.

You should have never done that. You should have just made a new Standard
user account and used that.

ASPNET machine account is a special reserved account that you as an user
will nerver use as an user to login with or doing anything else in regards
to using that special account. You'll never know what the psw for that
reserved account.

You had better find out what that permission setting for that ASPNET user
account was before you messed with it and set it back to that.

You have kind of toasted yourself here when you changed your user account
that was Admin to Standard, with no other user account that you can use as
Admin to login into the system.

Maybe, someone can help you here, because otherwise, you have yourself in a
real tough situation.

Maybe, you can hack your way back. You can try it or have someone try it for
you.

I found Jimmah's website. But now it does not load for me. He details that I can fix this be enabling Vista's back-up admin account. I'm guessing his servers are down?

You have to be Admin to do it.

He details that you can use the Vista Recovery DVD to open the RUN CMD and some other steps to enabling Vista's hidden Admin.

Hi southerncrossI have exactly the same issue. I wanted to downgrade his current admin account and create an admin account for myself on my sons laptop so I could install parental control. I did modify the name and status of the ASP.NET machine account from standard to admin and did all parental control changes etc. when i tried to log in again the very same happen than in your case. When I get the password prompt for the asp.net account and I enter the password I registered it says "logon failed: this is not the expected logon type for this account or similar" error msg.Did you find yet a solution ? can anyone here pleeeease help me ?Thank you.
