Unable to install Office 2003 Pro

Hello All- I must be missing something simple, but am having a heck of a
time installing Office 2003 Pro on Vista RC2 (5744). Running in a test
domain, installing as domain admin and as local admin I get the following
error every time-

"Error 1913. Setup cannot update file C:\Windows\system32\mapisvc.inf.
Verify that the file exists in your system and that you have sufficient
permissions to update it."

It installed in the same setting under RC1 without any problems, so I'm at a
loss on what I'm missing.

Thanks for any help-
John

Re: Unable to install Office 2003 Pro

I have installed Office 2003 Pro without issues as a normal user. Have you
tried as a normal user?

Re: Unable to install Office 2003 Pro

Thanks for the help, but still no go when installing as any local account.
One thing I did notice was that the administrators group no longer had full
control of the mapisvc.inf file. The group Trusted Installers had full
control and I was unable to change it. So I wiped the drive and reinstalled
Vista again and this time office 2003 installed fine, so I checked the
permissions on the mapisvc.inf file and it only had SYSTEM, Administrators
and Users this time no Trusted Installers. I guess it was just one of those
things that happens. Thanks-

John

windows.vista.security

I am having the same problem with Office XP. I believe the problem is with the Outlook program. I installed Office XP on Vista without Outlook and it loaded with no problem. I'm trying to load Office XP on another Vista machine with Outlook and I'm getting the Error for that mapisrvc.inf file. If you don't use Outlook try a custom install without loading Outlook. The mapisrvc.inf has something to do with MAPI email. Good Luck!

This is not a security related issue, you should be asking this
in an Office news group, not here.

Re: windows.vista.security

I am having this same problem trying to install Office XP Pro...and the way I
see it is that this is a VISTA problem since it installs fine in XP right?

Then try one of the general Vista groups. It isn't a security
issue which is the topic of this news group.
