| | Vista and Conficker? I write to inquire if MS will have an update for this threat? Not just a removal tool after the event? Much thanks in advance for an informed opinion. |

If Automatic Updates were enabled this was a non-issue. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS08-067.mspx If you've already been effected the Removal Tool can remove it: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. | | Re: Vista and Conficker? If the patch is 'not required' you probably already have it installed. Make a note of the KB number and check your update history (windows updates>view update history) to see if the fix has been applied. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Vista and Conficker? That KB is NOT listed in the history. If it was part of the default build of the laptop, could it not be considered an update? In that case, what do I look for? -tom On Mon, 30 Mar 2009 08:59:09 -0700, John Barnett MVP <freelance@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: > If the patch is 'not required' you probably already have it installed. > Make a note of the KB number and check your update history (windows > updates>view update history) to see if the fix has been applied. > |

| | Re: Vista and Conficker? This is the link for the update I referred to: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS08-067.mspx Choose which operating system you are using and download the appropriate update. If the update is already installed then a warning will appear on your screen. It wouldn't be part of the default build because, as far as I know, the patch was released after Service pack 1. I've installed service pack 2 and it still shows the KB patch in the update history window so maybe your machine hasn't been patched? You should make sure that your Anti Virus is up to date along with any Malware/spyware software you have installed. -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is".
