Thank you for the suggestion. The EVERYONE group has no permissions. The
only ones listed with permissions are SYSTEM, myself, and administrators.
All with full control.

Just for the record, and anyone who references this thread in the future, I
have tested to see if this issue was a result of me accessing the files via
the administrative share of the XP machine, e.g.
\\xpmachine\c$\mydocs\yadda. I wanted to test to see if MS had locked this
down in some fashion. I have created a share, e.g.
\\xpmachine\mydocs\yadda, attempted to copy the files, and still received
the same "Destination folder access denied" dialog.

Thanks again,
Charlie

Sorry. I should have included earlier that EVERYONE is not listed, much
less has any permissions.

Thanks,
Charlie

Re: Destination folder access denied

Okay guys, I've been having the same problem, but I finally figured it
out. I registered here just to help you guys out. Hopefully your
problem with access being denied is the same as mine.

Here is the fix:

Go to control panel
go to folder options
go to the view tab
click "Do not show hidden files and folders"

This fixed my issue with access being denied to folders. Hopefully
that will help you guys out as well.

Re: Destination folder access denied

I have the same problem, and none of these solutions has helped.

Finally, I just decided to install the freeware FolderShare
(www.foldershare.com) on each of my computers and allow that program to sync
files via the Internet in the background. It's a kludge, but it's less
painful than everything else I've tried.

RE: Destination folder access denied

Yeh this is a complete joke. I created a folder on my desktop and put some
stuff in it, and now I can't delete it. There are loads of people having the
same type of problem and no one has given a satisfactory answer...

Fixed it - i think

My second hard drive (labeled D) was giving me this very problem. What happened was, I swapped the main C drive out for a different one and reinstalled Vista on it as a test for the drive. Well, then I plugged in the D drive and things went ok...until.....
A friend of mine lost his hard drive in a crash so I sold him the one I had just put in (i figured since the other one was the same size and speed but newer, and it had all my apps and games already on it I would keep that one, right? Even if it was a different brand.)
So I put in the previous drive and fired it up.
BANG! All my stuff right back as I remember. Of course it would be. I knew that.
But....
UGH! I cannot cut and paste or copy anything to the D drive now??!! WHAT!!??

So....
After 3 hours of fighting with Vista this is how I fixed it:

Go to MY COMPUTER
Right click on the DRIVE that is causing trouble (not the folder, but the actual drive EVEN IF IT IS THE MAIN SYSTEM DRIVE)
Click PROPERTIES then click the SECURITY tab

Change the ownership of the entire drive.

You will see your name twice (labeled as administrator and user)
BOTH need full permissions
BUT your USER version needs to be the OWNER of the drive.
After changing ownership, apply full permissions to yourself (stupid...i have to give MYSELF permissions on MY OWN pc...thanks MicroCrap!)

Apply all the changes and let me know.

Last edited by Ozena; 03-29-2007 at 10:01 AM.. Reason: This worked for me twice now on 2 pc's - thought someone might try it here and if it helps, then buy me an ice cream!

Re: Destination folder access denied

OK, I've done all these things, and so far, pretty good, but, still how do I
make it so taht the folders that you normally can't access, but now I can,
still won't let me Back Them Up with my Backup programs, either with the
Vista Backup or my Acronis Backup or Norton Backup.
I've tried all of these and still, the files that Vista considers to be
protected, even though I have Full Control and Ownership of them all now,
they still can't be automatically backed up with any backup software.
Soooo, I end up having to manually do this backing up to my other drive.
The point is, that I want a COMPLETE copy of my C drive ALWAYS backed up for
my own protection for later use if and when I need it, but when you go to
back things up, it never backs up these certain files.
namely the Application Data Folders/Files.
Which, are where all the settings are placed for your programs and where my
Mozilla Email is all stored, so thus, if you "think?" you are backing these
things up, you later find you really didn't back up didly squat!
And I despise having to redo all of these settings later on when I need to
reformat and reinstall all of my programs and such.
Why even have a Backup system in Vista if even it's own backup program can't
even backup "truly" everything on the C drive, like you want it to?
When I use my Acronis Backup Program, the whole idea is so that you can put
complete programs right back to the way you had them running before, but it
can't do that if it isn't being allowed to "see" the files that need to be
backed up.
Cuz I can manually click on the so called protected type files and copy them
manually and view them and all that, they just don't seem to be able to be
seen by backup programs.
And I can see why, since they are slightly ghosted.

Anyway, this is the third thread I've posted this subject to, so I'm hoping
that I'll get some "real" answers to these issues?

Thanx.................md
P.S. I initially was quite supprised to see just how many zillions of
threads there are on this subject of Permissions, but now not so much
supprised LOL

Ok...
You have ownership of ALL the files and drives and full permissions right?
Make sure you have hidden files and protected operating system files showing in your directories by going to Folder Options and then UNCHECKING the boxes that hide those files.

After the files are shown (RESET the permissions for the drive again the same way i told you before giving yourself access to all files and folders - I know, I know, you did...but try again for security)

Now attempt a backup. let me know.
