ICMP and Windows Vista Firewall

Hi Folks

Where are the ICMP options in the Windows Vista Firewall?

I am interested in controlling Ping.

Kind Regards

Re: ICMP and Windows Vista Firewall

Try "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" in Administrative Tools.

Re: ICMP and Windows Vista Firewall

Hi Lionel

I have already looked in the advanced security and I can not find the rules
for ICMP or how to create one.

Vista's help is no good as that said it is on the advanced tab on the normal
view. However a comment there says it has moved to advanced security.

Look more closely:
Core Networking - Destination Unreachable Fragmentation Needed (ICMPv4-In)
File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In)
Core Networking - Packet Too Big (ICMPv6-Out)
....

You can also create new ICMP rules with the New Rule wizard (use Custom
rule).

If you prefer an alternative interface, it is also possible to control the
Vista firewall from the command line, with netsh advfirewall firewall, or to
call the COM API directly from PowerShell.

Re: ICMP and Windows Vista Firewall

Hi Lionel

Thanks for this, I must be gettign too old to see clearly ;-)

I was expecting ICMP to be under core networking and as you say IP4 echo
request is under File and Printer Sharing
