Signed EXE to avoid UAC prompt

We have a specific exe that updates a lot of files under the directory it is
in. This program needs admin rights, is it possible to get a certificate to
to avoid this prompt. The reason being that some networks where our product
is installed wont be giving users admin passwords, the update is a daily
process to get the most up to date information of our site, so network guys
wont be able to do this every day?

I guess if not the best option is to apply the 'get maximum permission'
option in the manifest file.

Re: Signed EXE to avoid UAC prompt

The only way I know to do this is implement the update process as a service
that has the required permissions. Installing the service will need
administrator credentials. After that you should be good to go without uac
prompts.

Re: Signed EXE to avoid UAC prompt

I don't know the details but find an experienced domain administrator who
can explain how to schedule such updates from the domain servers.

RE: Signed EXE to avoid UAC prompt

The whole point of UAC is to not provide a way for applications to avoid the
prompts. That's a design goal.

As Kerry mentioned, the only way to do that is to perform the administrative
task from something that is already elevated.
