Firewalls?

Hi, is a 3rd party firewall/internet security suite needed with Vista 32/64?
If so which ones would you guys/gals recommend and will they all work on
both the 32 and 64 bit versions.
TIA
Tony

Re: Firewalls?

No, it's not needed. Windows Firewall does a good job, and the new one
in Vista works better than XP's version. If you have a router with a
built in firewall (most do), then that should give you enough protection.

Re: Firewalls?

Hi,
By my experience this new VISTA firewall is very good BUT it's advanced
interface (GUI) is'nt friendly for all users.
Indeed there is the COMODO FREE FIREWALL (for XP) that soon is availiable
for VISTA and it's one of the best, even between the paidware one's...
For now try the advanced firewall features of VISTA inside the
Administratives Tools. There you can set it to BLOCK all programs and then ,
one by one, and manually, set rules allowing programs to connect the web.
It worths the job, because after all only the programs and new rules created
will be allowed to the web.
Regards,
Tim.
