| Guest | Switch User Not Available in Ultimate I hope this isn't something stoopid and I get to feel super foolish, but I don't have Switch User available on the shutdown menu of my Ultimate installation. Found notes online and in the help that say it relies on Fast User Switching, and that FSU is on by default, but I still got no option to Switch, and I can't find how to get it. Anyone? Paul. |

Does it appear on the menu you get when you press Ctrl-Alt-Del? XP used to disable FUS when a machine was connected to a domain, but even that isn't a problem any more. | Guest | Re: Switch User Not Available in Ultimate nope, not available when CAD invoked either; if I lock my current session then CAD again, I get to enter my password for the logged on user or click Other Credentials button, which then shows me my logged on account and insert a smart card as the only options available. And I am connected to a domain, yes, but as you say, that shouldn't matter any more. Cheers, Paul. <alun@texis.invalid> wrote in message news:EFA8D219-F3B3-49ED-ACD3-015ABF47FC32@microsoft.com... > "Paul Paintin" <paul.paintin@virgin.net> wrote in message > news:ur95v90VHHA.488@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >>I hope this isn't something stoopid and I get to feel super foolish, but I >>don't have Switch User available on the shutdown menu of my Ultimate >>installation. >> >> Found notes online and in the help that say it relies on Fast User >> Switching, and that FSU is on by default, but I still got no option to >> Switch, and I can't find how to get it. > > > Does it appear on the menu you get when you press Ctrl-Alt-Del? > > XP used to disable FUS when a machine was connected to a domain, but even > that isn't a problem any more. > > Alun. > ~~~~ > -- > Texas Imperial Software | Web: http://www.wftpd.com/ > 23921 57th Ave SE | Blog: http://msmvps.com/alunj/ > Woodinville WA 98072-8661 | WFTPD, WFTPD Pro are Windows FTP servers. > Fax/Voice +1(425)807-1787 | Try our NEW client software, WFTPD Explorer. > > |

| Guest | Re: Switch User Not Available in Ultimate Is there a possiblity of a GPO that prevents this coming from your domain, have you run an RSOP to see if that could be it. The other idea i had was maybe some of the services that are required aren't starting. Have you looked at the app log or have do you changed any services? There used to be a Fast User Switching service, but I think this is handled by the terminal services service now, could be wrong...but worth a shot -- Josh http://windowsconnected.com "Paul Paintin" <paul.paintin@virgin.net> wrote in message news:uaxn5y1VHHA.5008@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > nope, not available when CAD invoked either; if I lock my current session > then CAD again, I get to enter my password for the logged on user or click > Other Credentials button, which then shows me my logged on account and > insert a smart card as the only options available. > > And I am connected to a domain, yes, but as you say, that shouldn't matter > any more. > > Cheers, > > Paul. > > <alun@texis.invalid> wrote in message > news:EFA8D219-F3B3-49ED-ACD3-015ABF47FC32@microsoft.com... >> "Paul Paintin" <paul.paintin@virgin.net> wrote in message >> news:ur95v90VHHA.488@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >>>I hope this isn't something stoopid and I get to feel super foolish, but >>>I don't have Switch User available on the shutdown menu of my Ultimate >>>installation. >>> >>> Found notes online and in the help that say it relies on Fast User >>> Switching, and that FSU is on by default, but I still got no option to >>> Switch, and I can't find how to get it. >> >> >> Does it appear on the menu you get when you press Ctrl-Alt-Del? >> >> XP used to disable FUS when a machine was connected to a domain, but even >> that isn't a problem any more. >> >> Alun. >> ~~~~ >> -- >> Texas Imperial Software | Web: http://www.wftpd.com/ >> 23921 57th Ave SE | Blog: http://msmvps.com/alunj/ >> Woodinville WA 98072-8661 | WFTPD, WFTPD Pro are Windows FTP servers. >> Fax/Voice +1(425)807-1787 | Try our NEW client software, WFTPD Explorer. >> >> > > |

| Guest | Re: Switch User Not Available in Ultimate other early adopters on the same domain (with Vista Business, not Ultimate, mind you) have got the Switch User option, and I'm a Domain Admin too. There's no FSU service anymore, as you mentioned, the Terminal Services service is started, and searching the system event log for the word Switch draws a blank... Glad it's not something obvious I've missed, judging by the respsonses so far... Paul. | Guest | Re: Switch User Not Available in Ultimate In Windows Vista, Fast User Switching can't be turned off, well at least to the best of my knowledge. Have a try at this: Windows Vista supports fast user switching in both domain and workgroup configurations. To switch users, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then click the Switch User button. 1) In a workgroup, the Log On screen is displayed as at startup. 2) In a domain, a screen appears with the message "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del To Log On," and you must press Ctrl+Alt+Del again to display the Log On screen. Hope this takes care of you, Cheers - the weekend is almost here!!
