Vista - What Antivirus Products Show Up in Vista

I have tried AVG, Avast and Kaspersky and none of these are recognised in the
Security Center in Vista Home Prremium. Could anyone advise me of the
antivirus software it does detect or if this could be a problem with my vista
upgrade which was from XP.

What you described is Vista just doing its proper job, conflicts and
troubles will not arrive until you force the install of those programs.

Also, browse these Forums for learning what factually occurs after adding
the program (and other similar programs) that you shared.

Question for you:
Do you desire a conflict free computer, or, do you desire perpetual
conflicts while using Vista and browsing the Internet?

Vista end users that *never* add third party programs rarely ever visit
theses Forums unless their only purpose is for sharing the joy and user
friendly functionalities while using Vista.

As end users add third party programs to Vista, progressively, (user
induced) troubles and conflicts develop while using Vista.

While browsing these Forums, almost without exception, the majority of
complaints are from users that have added third party programs.

We humans are sometimes firmly creatures of habit, wrongly believing what
was needed yesterday must be needed today. XP needed third party a/v. Vista

Are you installing Vista compatible versions of these programs? I use AVG
and CA on my various computers here and both are recognized just fine.

The latest version of AVG works fine in Vista, I have installed t numerous
times.
Occasionally you have to manually configure the email scanner though.

The latest version of Avast Home Edition is correctly identified here in the
Security Center. It causes absolutely no problems whatsoever, and the virus
definitions are updated automatically.

I am running AVG Anti-Malware and it shows AVG as the Anti-Virus in
the Security Center.

We have been through this many times before.

Vista has ***NO*** built-in antivirus protection. It is necessary that you
install it yourself.

The antivirus definitions are, sometimes, updated 3-4 times a day here. Hard
to ask for better than that!

Are you really advising people not to install anti-virus software?

Granted, a lot of AV is crap, and most of the time a 100% success rating in
benchmarks indicates only that the manufacturers spent way too much time
putting code for detecting a virus that hasn't been seen in the wild since
1993.

However, while there may not be any specific Vista viruses yet, and Vista
does a really good job of protecting you from the sort of behaviours
(computer and user) that allow virus transmission, the system isn't perfect.

For people who are likely to contract viruses, an anti-virus solution is
essential. There will be viruses for Vista one day, far sooner than there
will be lemon-scented paper napkins.
