vista firewall and closing port 135

I did a scan on the box and port 135 is open. Can it be closed? If so
how?

Re: vista firewall and closing port 135

It's for RPC (Remote Procedure Calls) and a lot of servers. I don't think
you want to close it. If you go to the page below and search "this page
only" for 135 you'll see.

You can open/close ports through the advanced firewall thing. I'm not at a
Vista PC right now, but it's easy to find. I'm sure someone else can tell
you how to get there. But anyway, I don't think you want to close 135.

Re: vista firewall and closing port 135

What type of network are you on? The firewall will open it on a domain network.

As Puppy Breath says, 135 is for RPC. More correctly, it is the RPC Endpoint
Mapper port. It is used by remote systems to find RPC services on your
system. Those are used for remote management

If the firewall is in the public profile 135 should be closed. If it is not,
that would be a problem.
