| Guest | Firewall keeps shutting off Hi, I just got a new computer with Windows Vista premium and every time i turn it on, the firewall is shut off and I need to go in a turn it back on. I have the free trial Microsoft anti-virus on it too. How do I get the firewall to stay on? Sharlene |

| Guest | Re: Firewall keeps shutting off OneCare has its own firewall that's separate from the built-in one. Maybe that's why you're seeing the built-in firewall as "off". I'm not sure though. I had to uninstall OneCare because it started causing problems in Vista. Did your new computer come with a trial version of either a McAfee or Norton security product? Most of them do. If yes, did you uninstall that first before installing OneCare? If not, you need to disconnect from the Internet and uninstall all antivirus programs and then just install the one you want. OneCare is not recommended as its antivirus has a very low catch rate. Frankly, McAfee and Norton are not recommended either. NOD32 or Kaspersksy are excellent, as is Avast! if you want a free av. In the case of McAfee and Norton, those programs come with their own firewall which will disable the built-in Windows Firewall. This is by design as you only want one to have one firewall installed. If you really only have OneCare running, then here are support links (no newsgroup access): Windows Live OneCare Forums http://forums.microsoft.com/windowso....aspx?siteid=2 OneCare Tech Support http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-...calsupport.htm Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" | Guest | Re: Firewall keeps shutting off That's strange. I'm running Live OneCare and haven't noticed any problems. But then I'm running Ultimate. You should never have more than one firewall or anti-virus running at the same time. It is also not a good idea to have multiple spyware scanners resident at the same time. I suspect that lots of the problems folks are reporting are primarily due to a lack of knowledge about those kinds of issues. | Guest | RE: Firewall keeps shutting off Good question. This annoyance is not addressed on Microsoft's web site. I have sent them a question regarding this problem.
