| Guest | Workaround for XP/Vista Sys. Restore problems in dual boot? I know that Vista's restore points are all wiped when I boot back into XP and I do not want to even try Bitlocker. Would hiding the Vista drive in XP using TweakUI work or not? Any other suggestions? -- Peter Toronto, Canada XP Pro SP2 x 2 + Vista Ultimate P4 HT @ 3.00ghz, 4.0gb RAM, 700gb HDD |

Another option that might work would be to put them on different controllers, and disable the appropriate controller in XP. -- Insert something clever here. |

| Guest | Re: Workaround for XP/Vista Sys. Restore problems in dual boot? Thanks. Why not Bitlocker? Too much fiddling around needed without that magic chip. | Guest | Re: Workaround for XP/Vista Sys. Restore problems in dual boot? Peter: I'm dual booting using BitLocker without any additional work, I just leave the USB drive plugged in all the time. There is another alternative, use a third party boot manager, but I haven't tried it. | Guest | Re: Workaround for XP/Vista Sys. Restore problems in dual boot? Strange that XP would do that especially when I've got it monitoring only its own partition for SR purposes out of the 8 or so that I have. I only found out by accident about this when I found Vista still trying to SR after 24 hours! -- Peter Toronto, Canada XP Pro SP2 x 2 + Vista Ultimate fully updated P4 D865GBFL HT @ 3.0ghz 4.0gb DDR 700gb HD ATI Radeon 9550 Graphics Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4 Audio "john" <john@msn.com> wrote in message news:OK7lLRDYHHA.1300@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > > "Peter" <ex-brit AT rogers DOT com> wrote in message > news:%23sbt8FDYHHA.3268@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> Thanks. | Guest | Re: Workaround for XP/Vista Sys. Restore problems in dual boot? I see. BIOS is able to boot to USB devices (I guess that means "see") but I did notice that I can't actually configure a USB device as the actual boot object. -- Peter Toronto, Canada XP Pro SP2 x 2 + Vista Ultimate fully updated P4 D865GBFL HT @ 3.0ghz 4.0gb DDR 700gb HD ATI Radeon 9550 Graphics Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4 Audio "Paul Adare" <padare@newsguy.com> wrote in message news:MPG.20586829fabec75498a407@msnews.microsoft.com... > In article <#NgqakEYHHA.4220@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl>, in the > microsoft.public.windows.vista.security news group, <"Peter" > <ex-brit AT rogers DOT com>> says... > >> Making my USB as the first boot wont screw up getting into my XP >> partition I >> trust? >> > > With Bitlocker you don't want to boot from the USB device, you > simply need to be able to read from it during the boot process. > -- > Paul Adare > MVP - Windows - Virtual Machine > http://www.identit.ca > "The English language, complete with irony, satire, and sarcasm, > has survived for centuries without smileys.
