| Guest | Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare I installed the 90 day free trial of Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare virus protection s/w and the Vista Security Center shows that Virus protection is not installed. The LiveOne icon is green in the taskbar and shows that the status is good. I was hoping that using LiveOne would eliminate any compatibility issues with Vista. Looks like that was a wrong assumption. We also had Spysweeper installed then removed it when we saw that Windows Defender was already on the computer. We uninstalled SpySweeper and now get the message in Security Center that SpySweeper is running. Any help cleaning up Windows Security Center would be appreciated. -- PeterC |

| Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Back to the pint before installation (use restore point). Next uninstall SpySpyware and run instalation of Windows Live OneCare. Installation is very qick but tune-up takes sevearal hours. Today I have installed this software. It works perfect and Vista Security shows that computer is protected by Windows Live. -- JerzyMarian "PeterC@NickelCap" wrote: > I installed the 90 day free trial of Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare virus > protection s/w and the Vista Security Center shows that Virus protection is > not installed. > > The LiveOne icon is green in the taskbar and shows that the status is good. > I was hoping that using LiveOne would eliminate any compatibility issues with > Vista. | Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Looked into restoring but the restore points did not go back more than 10 days ago. Couldn't find the point at which Live OneCare was installed. -- PeterC "JerzyMarian" wrote: > Back to the pint before installation (use restore point). | Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Windows Live OneCare 1.5 is compatible with Vista, reporting its status to Windows Security Center. Regarding the SpySpyware issue, I'd recommend you to contact the company that develops this product. They seem to have a bug in their uninstall component. They are supposed to delete their instance from the WMI Windows Security Center store when their product is removed. Let me know if you want details on how to clean the Windows Security Center store yourself. Thanks, Marcelo "PeterC@NickelCap" wrote: > Looked into restoring but the restore points did not go back more than 10 > days ago. > Couldn't find the point at which Live OneCare was installed. > -- > PeterC > > > "JerzyMarian" wrote: > > > Back to the pint before installation (use restore point). | Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Windows Security Center is not showing Live OneCare's status. Windows Live OneCare 1.5 looks to be compatible with Vista but it still shows Malware protection red with "Virus Protection" Not found and "Spyware and other malware protection" off. It also shows that the Windows Firewall is turned off. The Windows Security Icon in the task bar shows red. Do I have a problem? JimR(MVP) in another thread in this newsgroup 3/4/2007 - OneCare (or Vista) shutting down FW and AS? - says that "One Care disables Defender and the Windows firewall because it has its own firewall and spyware protection. This is by design." There is also another thread with some good info - OneCare.... Confused?. I suppose I could go into Windows Security Center and set "I have a firewall program that I'll monitor myself", "I have an antivirus program that I'll monitor myself" and "I have an antispyware program that I'll monitor myself". That removes the Windows Security Center icon from the task bar. For simplicity's sake it just seems that Windows Security center should indicate that all three s/w's are installed and running and leave the Windows Security Center Icon in the task bar. This would give the status of other settings such Internet security, user account control and auto update. I had put a ticket in with WebRoot who sent me a clean up program. It cleaned up the "SpySweeper" running indication in Windows Security Center. -- PeterC "Marcelo Birnbach" wrote: > Windows Live OneCare 1.5 is compatible with Vista, reporting its status to > Windows Security Center. > > Regarding the SpySpyware issue, I'd recommend you to contact the company > that develops this product. | Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Windows One Care is supposed to report its state to Windows Security Center. There seem to be a bug in WMI where its store gets corrupted; that's where Windows Security Center keeps the state of all the security products in your machine. Have you tried uninstalling OneCare and trying again? "PeterC@NickelCap" wrote: > Windows Security Center is not showing Live OneCare's status. | Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Yep, just uninstalled and reinstalled... same results. OneCare happy. WSC not so happy. Another thing that could be confusing to some users is that WSC shows Defender turned off (which I now understand is normal with OneCare) but is asking to be turned on. It would be very tempting to click the Defender "Turn on now" button. -- PeterC "Marcelo Birnbach" wrote: > Windows One Care is supposed to report its state to Windows Security Center. > There seem to be a bug in WMI where its store gets corrupted; that's where > Windows Security Center keeps the state of all the security products in your > machine. > > Have you tried uninstalling OneCare and trying again? > > "PeterC@NickelCap" wrote: > > > Windows Security Center is not showing Live OneCare's status. | Guest | RE: Vista Security Center not showing Live OneCare Looks like this OneCare and Windows Security Center issue is a case of a lack of communication from the OneCare team. It also looks like it is considered normal by some see http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsO...16604&siteid=2. I wonder when having a red or yellow security warning status became normal? -- PeterC "PeterC@NickelCap" wrote: > Yep, just uninstalled and reinstalled... same results. OneCare happy.
