Public and Private settings

After installing vista one of the questions asked was "Is this computer
connecting to a private or a public network" not thinking about it i selected
public. after that i noticed i can not connect to anything from remote
desktop, msn messenger, aim, windows update, but i can see and access my
folders that are on share from my other pc.

i switched it to private but i still can not log into anything.

the only error messages i see are from msn messenger saying that there is a
firewall conflict, another is windows update saying date and time are not
sync with the micro server.

I have synced the clock in my bios and on my desktop via popcorn phone
number, nothing, i have disabled firewall... nothing. i cant even get the
time.syst to work either to update my clock

help!!! :-(

RE: Public and Private settings

As a short and not very useful explanation, I would suggest you check your
"Services".

Also, you can run mmc from the search text box and add some snap-ins. Do an
analyze and go though your Microsoft Network connections. It may be a
relationship between a client and server.
