Configuring Vista firewall

Is it possible for the average Vista user (whatever that is)
to turn on the second half of the Vista firewall ?

I am referring to the outbound filtering portion
of the firewall. It is my understanding that it
is very difficult to (properly) set it up.

I have been reading that the Vista firewall is very
full featured, but that it has so many options, that
it is beyond anything but the most advanced users.

One such article is here
http://www.businessweek.com/the_thre...ml?chan=search
I don't believe everything I read on the internet, but
there must be hundreds of articles on this
subject (if you do a googgle search)

Please help me to understand if I can adjust
the firewall so it is truly a two way firewall,
or if I should just get a third party version
like Zone Labs or ?

Thanks for the help
Mike

Well now, heres a thing, I messed with the Vista outbound bit and yes, it does tell you if programs try to get out................Sirt of.

If the program comes from a certain company begiinning With "M" and ending in "T" with "Icrosof" in the middle then it will just let it out anyway !

You can say to the firewall I dont want explorer to go out, and it will nod its head and say "Ok boss" then when you look again its letting it out

So, junk the vista firewall and get a proper one

Mike:

I use VistaFirewallControl app (free) for outbound control similar to ZA
free.

I use it. It works fine. Why MS left such a control out, I will never
understand.
