| Guest | Outlook 2002 Forgets Pwd, Protected Storage System Provider, KB290 I just used Windows Easy Transfer to move Office 2002 settings from my old XP SP2 machine to this new Windows Home Premium machine. Problem: Outlook forgets email account passwords at the end of eaech session (regardless of the "remember password" setting). KB290684 addresses this issue for OS's other than Vista, but I tried the XP Regedit fix anyway (both running RegEdit as Administrator in a user account and when logged in as Administrator) only to receive "Permission Denied"... Q: How do I overcome this issue with Regedit or otherwise resolve the fundamental Outlook memory loss problem. Thanks |

Are you running Outlook 2002 on Vista? That would be unsupported. Office XP went into extended support in July of last year, before Vista came out. It was probably not ever fully tested on Vista and it is quite likely that it used mechanisms for storing the password that were removed in Vista. |

I don't believe it will be fixed. See this page by MVP Diane Poremsky: http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm Sorry. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" | Guest | Re: Outlook 2002 Forgets Pwd, Protected Storage System Provider, K Thanks - v. annoying; it seems the "extended support phase" is an easy excuse for avoiding doing things & pushing people to a new version - I do want to move to Office 2007 anyway but... new laptop, new OS... one step at a time... just wanted to have a breather before diving in to the next level <sigh> Can't see any way to do it from VBA, no idea about scripting but it does look like a dead end... I'll just keep hibernating the system until I have to restart! Thanks again Julian "Malke" wrote: > Julian wrote: > > I just used Windows Easy Transfer to move Office 2002 settings from my old XP > > SP2 machine to this new Windows Home Premium machine. > > > > Problem: Outlook forgets email account passwords at the end of eaech session > > (regardless of the "remember password" setting). > > > > KB290684 addresses this issue for OS's other than Vista, but I tried the XP > > Regedit fix anyway (both running RegEdit as Administrator in a user account > > and when logged in as Administrator) only to receive "Permission Denied"... > > > > Q: How do I overcome this issue with Regedit or otherwise resolve the > > fundamental Outlook memory loss problem. > > > > Thanks > > > > > This is a known issue with Outlook XP (Office 2002) and Vista. | Guest | Forgotten passwords I have the same problem but with an even earlier version of MS outlook - i noticed a lot of programs have the same problem though. I can't use any Itunes content that has been purchased. It just says authorising content, asks for username password, then it says it was sucessful, then u click play on the authorised content and it starts over again - ie asks for the username and password?!?!
