Allowing a 3rd party software like Limewire to run?

I downloaded Limewire on my new pc with vista home premium.
Limewire requires you to disable the firewall for use, I disable the
firewall in the security center and on McAfee and it still wont connect and
says it detects a firewall.
has anyone else encoutnered this and how do you fix it?

RE: Allowing a 3rd party software like Limewire to run?

Let me see if I understand this:

You want to run a program whose primary use-case is to violate intellectual
property laws, and the program requires you to disable all firewalls, and you
still find this to be desirable enough to post a message in a security
newsgroup to find out how to turn off your security to make this program
work?

It may work properly if you get an iMac, but short of that, I'd say you have
a hardware firewall on your router.

RE: Allowing a 3rd party software like Limewire to run?

Well i have Limewire 4.12.11 from the official website and I can run limewire
with windows firewall enabled.

I read an article yesterday about the vista firewall saying how easily it
could be disabled by hackers so I wouldn't bother with it, I leave it on
anyway. The problem is not your firewalls if it still wont connect.

If you are on a router (wired or wireless) make sure you have the correct
ports setup for limewire and your router.
