| | Re: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off I have been running fine for months now. Just yesterday the stupid icon for my netowk connection gets x ed out red but i am still connected. Also same with security center AVG 7.5 not recognized but still running and also windows defender won't turn on. The fix doesn't work for me either. The only thing i did last night that may havwe caused something was updated my aim from 6.0 to 6.5 and i also deleted my browsing history, cookies , and deleted temp internet files. None of this should have caused this to happen. please helllpppp!!!!1 -- perculator ------------------------------------------------------------------------ perculator's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=34609 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=714970 http://forums.techarena.in |

So, the security panel tells me that Windows Defender is off, but Windows Defender tells me it is on. I should add that I have have been using this computer for a week and did not get the notice that Windows Defender was off until today. Please advise. Thank you! |

| | Re: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off I, too, am having the same issue. System was fine yesterday ... isn't today. I have followed every step outlined in this thread ... even run the /salvagerepository command MULTIPLE times with restarts ... no good ... I do not have MS OneCare installed. I use Kapersky Anti-virus (Microsoft lists this as one of the recommended products). Again, everything has been working for months with no issues. Now, Windows security center shows Defender is off and their is no anti-virus software installed. Defender itself shows it is running, and Kapersky shows that it is running normally. Again, I have followed every step suggested in this thread ... I'm still having problems. Also, I tried to do a system restore and that failed as well with "The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur (ox800452f3)". Advice and additional help?? | | RE: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off Have pretty much the same problem as Hornet's. Mohit Kapoor's method did not work for me. I get a slightly different result from Petar's though and it shows like this....... C:\>winmgmt /verifyrepository WMI repository verification failed Error code: 0x80041003 Facility: WMI Description: Access denied C:\>winmgmt /salvagerepository WMI repository verification failed Error code: 0x80041003 Facility: WMI Description: Access denied I do not have anti-virus or xxCare One software installed. Previously the WD was turned On. Show "Mohit Kapoor" wrote: Quote: > Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.
