| Guest | Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off I have Windows Defender running normally on Windows Vista (the task-bar icon is showing that Defender is on and running ok) but the Security Center is telling me that Windows Defender is turned off and there is a button to turn it on. However, when I press the Turn On button (even though I know it is already turned on) I get the message: "Security Center is updating definitions for Window Defender". After "searching for definitions" I get the message: "There are no new definitions available to download for Windows Defender". I'd like to solve this because the Security Center icon is always showing me that I have a Security Alert. |

| Guest | RE: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off I have exactly the same problem. I just installed Windows Vista business version. It is annoying. Can we send this problem to Microsoft? | Guest | RE: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off Please perform the following to resolve your issues. Open elevated command prompt and type cd\windows\system32\wbem press enter Then type ren repository repository.old and press enter. Restart the computer and check your security center again hopefully everything should be working there. Thanks and Regards Mohit Kapoor "Hornet" wrote: > I have Windows Defender running normally on Windows Vista (the task-bar icon > is showing that Defender is on and running ok) but the Security Center is > telling me that Windows Defender is turned off and there is a button to turn > it on. | Guest | RE: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Type the following command: winmgmt /verifyrepository If the system returns "WMI repository is not consistent", run this command: winmgmt /salvagerepository The first time you run this it will fail. (It will issue stop commands to the services causing it to fail. It might take a couple minutes for the services to shut down). Run the command again. You actually may have to run it 3 times before it finally runs and completes on its own. Reboot your system. | Guest | Re: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off Thanks for the fix. I've been looking for this for months now. It had happened on another computer and I was worried it was a sign of malware. The second fix works a charm. You need to restart after you run it the 2 or 3 times for the warning to go away. | Guest | RE: Security Center says that Windows Defender is turned off All it says is WMI repository is consistent, however the security center still says the defender is off and i cannot update it. I tried installing the 32-bit fix and that didn't work either "Mohit Kapoor" wrote: Quote: > Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.
