| Guest | IE 7 Protected Mode crash... Using Vista Business, IE7, everything patched to current levels. If IE7 is set to "Protected Mode", typing anything - hitting any character - in the address bar causes IE to explode with an Event ID 1000: Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b133, faulting module kt_dll.dll, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x2a425e19, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00004809, process id 0x12a0, application start time 0x01c77b6fec8e75b0. Running IE without Protected Mode checked works fine, and clicking from link to link in PM or using the drop-down list doesn't cause the crash, either. Only putting the focus in the address bar and hitting a key. ??? -- Giftzwerg *** |

Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without Add-ons? Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). 2. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware All MS-MVP Sites. http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/darnit.html http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315 So How Did I Get Infected Anyway? For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you owe it to the author. No difference. If protected mode is enabled, IE crashes the moment you type a key in the address bar, even with add-ons disabled. > 2. Malware already installed on the computer: The problem with this explanation is that this bug struck the very first time I fired up IE. I (literally) opened IE, clicked in the address bar to move away from IBM's pre-canned home page, and - whammo - IE blows up before I got to any websites except for Lenovo's. This bug is very strange. It's only typing in the address bar that triggers it. Using URLs in any way from within the page or dropdowns works just fine. -- Giftzwerg |
