Password reset disk - CD not recognized

Windows Vista Home Premium, Dell XPS M1210 notebook:

Microsoft and third-party documentation of the Password Reset feature
indicates that removable media that can be used for the Password Reset Disk
include floppy disks, USB drives, and CDs. In creating a Password Reset
Disk, however, I find that only my USB drive is recognized as a possible
destination, even though I have a recordable CD in the burner. This is the
case whether I am using formatted disks of types CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD+RW. (I
have no floppy drive on my system.)

If I create the Password Reset file on the USB drive and then copy it to a
CD-R, and attempt to use the CD to reset the password, Vista does not
recognize the CD as a possible source.

Is this behavior by design, and is the documentation wrong when it suggests
that a CD can be used?

Has anyone else checked this out?

David

Re: Password reset disk - CD not recognized

Hi David,

Unfortunately, CDs are not supported for password reset disks. You need to
use a floppy disk or USB drive. The Microsoft documentation
(http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...d15841033.mspx)
has been corrected and will be updated on 5/3.
