| Guest | Security errors in Vista Each time I boot up I get multiple security errors. It is a Mesh Machine with Windows Vista; I have had the machine for about 6 weeks, but the problem has only arisen in the last 3 weeks. Malware protection states “Windows did not find any antivirus software on this computer”. But I am running AVG, fully activated. Spyware and other protection states “Windows Defender is turned off”. It isn’t, it is on. Any ideas |

Security Center is referring to it's real-time protection status. Might go into Windows Defender and double check it. 1. open Defender 2. click on TOOLS 3. click on OPTIONS 4. scroll down a bit 5. make sure "Use real-time protection (recommended)" is checked 6. click SAVE button to apply What are the other warnings that you are getting? Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Guest | Re: Security errors in Vista Brink, thanks for this - Real time protection is checked. The messages from Security centre are: "Windows Defender is turned off" - when I click on available options I either have the choice of monitoring my own anti spyware or going online to get an anti-spyware programme. And Malware protection states “Windows did not find any antivirus software on this computer”. But I am running AVG, fully activated. I then have the option of monitoring it myself or going online to get an antivirus programme Both AVG and Windows Defender are switched on and working properly! I use Avast Home Edition (free) & never had any problems. It's free, but you still need to register it. Here's a link : http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html You can also disable the Security Center's warnings. However, this will stop all notifications. You'll have to manually check in Security Center to see if there was any problems if you disable. If this is what you'd rather do, then post here and I'll give instructions. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Guest | Re: Security errors in Vista Try this: Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Type the following command: winmgmt /verifyrepository If the system returns "WMI repository is not consistent", run this command: winmgmt /salvagerepository The first time you run this it will fail. It will issue stop commands to the services causing it to fail. It might take a couple minutes for the services to shut down. Run the command again. You actually may have to run it 3 times before it finally runs and completes on its own. Reboot your system. | Guest | Re: Security errors in Vista Dean Dean - you are a life saver. I have no idea how you would know of that fix but the problem was driving me batty. I followed your instructions and presto! Thanks also for including that I needed to run the command at least 3 times. I would have given up without that small piece of info. Thanks again "dean-dean" wrote:

| Guest | Re: Security errors in Vista Just tried this and I've hit a new problem, when I type winmgmt /verifyrepository into cmd it comes back with: winmgmt is not recoginzed as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file Any ideas how to fix this, think this could be the root casue of Windows Security Center giving false readings "dean-dean" wrote:
