| Guest | Unable to Connect to Domain I'm having a time attempting to connect to a domain. When I set up the configuration via control panel, I'm presented with the following error when I attempt to log in. "The join operation was not sucessful. This could be because an existing computer was previously created using a different set of credentials. Use a different computer name, or contact your administrator to remove any stale conflicting account. The error was: Access is denied." I get this error no matter what I name I give the computer. The knowledge base has nothing on this that I can find, and the only information I can find on this in the wilds of google is in Russian. Any clues here? |

When a computer account is created on a Windows Server 2003 domain, the individual creating said account can specify who, either by domain user name or domain global security group membership, can actually add a computer to the domain to use that specific computer account. By default, the person who creates the computer account is the only one who can subsequently add a computer of that name to the domain. Has the person creating the computer account given you permissions (or the requisite group membership) to add a computer using that specific name? -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |

Its a fairly large corporate network, and the restrictions are pretty tight. I'll have their IT folks check on it, and see what's up. Thanks! -J |
