Help with Windows Defender, it will not run!

I'm having trouble with windows defender every time I try to open it up a
message suddenly appears that says," application failed to initialize:
0x800106ba." The message continues by saying, "a program caused windows
defender's service to stop." I've tried to open it up maually but it won't
let me and this message keeps poping up. What should I do? I tried to
uninstall it and reinstall it but I do not know how.
PLEASE HELP!!!

You go to the Event Logs off of Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Manager
and find out what the details of the error message is indicating, first,
and then you post back.

Re: Help with Windows Defender, it will not run!

you have avast antivirus running, it most likely doesn't like Win Def. Look
in Services and put every instance of avast on Manual so it doesn't start
automatic, restart, and test Win Def. I had the same problem with Bitdefender
antivirus. give it a go may work for you too. at least we'll know what's
preventing WD from starting/working properly

Most likely is the System Event Log or Application Event Log, there is going
to be one message or messages that have a red icon signifying that a
critical error as occurred, pertaining to WD's abort and stoppage.

I'm not sure why you think it's a conflict with Avast, I, as many others,
run Avast AV with Windows Defender with no issues.

I have the same problems, can't open it to repair it, can.t download another one due to windows pop up which reads vista already has defender installed on it so the new download will be terminated.

Same problems as what? You've started a new thread as if you were
responding to a previous one, but included no details.
