Unable to access event log

I have a real problem. I am running Vista Home Premium. Every single time
that I try to open the event log inthe MMC, Windows says the service is not
running. Then I go to the services plug-in, and try to start the service.
Every time, it gives me "Error 4201, the instance passed was not recognized
as valid by a WMI data provider." I go into dos, and use the WMIC interface,
but when I try to open the Event Log part, it doesn't work either. The WMI
service is running.

So did you try to do it by going to Control Panel/Admin Tools or Computer
Management that are paths to view the Event Logs?
