NOD32 is very good, but it kept causing MS Flight Simulator X to crash,
so I went back to Avast.

I had a similar problem with NOD32 conflicting with FTP Voyager. The
solution was to go to NOD32 Control Center/IMON/Setup/Misc
tab/Exclusion/Edit and browse to C:/Program Files/Rhinosoft/FTPVoyager.exe
and add it to NOD32's exclusion list. Regards Doug.

Re: Antivirus recommendations

Many Thanks Guys,
I'm quite happy with the AVG installed and you all seem to agree on either
avast or avg.
I also tried the Live one Care but found it to always turn itself off ?

Many Thanks Again

Regards

John

Re: Antivirus recommendations

I run multiable computers some with Avast and some with AVG. I would
recommend AVG over Avast for only one reason. When starting up or rebooting
any of my systems Avast will slow the system down, as it will always update
itself at boot time, which sometimes is a pain. On one system it took about
5 mins to boot. I removed Avast and put in Avg and now boot time is under 1
min.

Both Antivirus programs are quite good but I am leaning towards AVG.

I run 6 computers with (1)Vista Home, (3)Premium And (2)Ultimate and 4
computers with XP Pro. I have never tried Live One Care but if it comes from
Microsoft I would rather not put all my eggs in one basket and leave it to a
third party that I can trust not to screw it up.

RE: Antivirus recommendations

NOD32, Kapersky are the best ones. Free ones are NOT the best....personal
Experiences.

while playing it. they play for more than 6 hours, (They put Auto-pilot on,
so they can leave) So i don't know whats up with your system, cuz i been
using NOD32 since November 2006, and i had no issues or crashes.

No gamer worth his salt runs an AV program in the background while gaming.

Never had a problem with online/realtime games with AV running in the
background, they don't have an impact on the real-time functions.

No, but AVG is still decent and I don't have to pay a yearly subscription.
I'm a cheap bastage and will always use free software if I can.

They have a greatly negative performance hit on disk I/O operations. There
is no good reason to run AV software while playing a game unless you are
completely paranoid.
