Vista - Help - Temp folder for downloads??

I recently downloaded a file for my wife and told it where to save the
file. Vista then told me that it placed the file in a temp folder for
safety. I had to go search for it to move it where it belonged.

How do I disable this feature?

What kind of file was it (i.e. what is the three letter file name
extension)?

It was an ".mtd" file...sheet music from musicnotes.com
