A bit more info might be all that is needed to advise you as to what question you need to ask of tech support if you call them again, or resolve the issue by yourself as Malke indicates as possible. What type modem did you receive? Is it a plain modem or router/modem combo? What were the steps taken to get to the point you now are at? If you used the installation cd, where did this process go awry, based on the steps that follow? 1. Sign up for the service either via a phone call or online. 2. Receive verification from att that the service request has been acknowledged and a "service activation" date has been set. That activation may have required a tech visit to the serviced location, and there should have been notification that the visit took place. 3. Receipt of the user installation kit containing the filters, modem, installation cd and other hardware. 4. Installation of the filters, modem, ethernet cable per the instructions from running the cd installer. 5. Initial connection via the att default username and password and selecting and inputting the chosen customer username and password at the appropriate prompts (at some point a reboot is required). 6. Connection with the actual username and password and various automatic connectivity checks. 7. Installation of any optional software. 8. Ready to go. -- norm |

| Guest | Re: Cannot Download AT&T DSL connection to Dell Laptop E1705 with VIST >> I have a brand new Dell E1705 Laptop with Microsoft Vista preinstalled by Dell. My Laptop can communicate with the DSL installing techs at AT&T, but Microsoft Vista is blocking AT&T DSL from downloading to my laptop. As a result, I cannot install AT&T DSL as my ISP. After several hours on the phone with AT&T Tech Support, they believe there is some kind of a firewall in Microsoft Vista blocking AT&T DSL from downloading to my laptop.. I also talked to Dell tech support and they said it’s an AT&T problem. Does anybody out there know about this problem and how to clear the Firewall blocking AT&T DSL installation. Dellon: I use ATT DSL w/o problems on several Dells (all with Vista), including two portables You may want to review the following with ATT tech support: Disable the DHCP broadcast flag: (if using DHCP) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us |
