Vista - Windows Firewall and Windows mail

Hello,

I want to set Windows Firewall to block all inbound and outbound traffic in the "Windows Firewall and Advanced Security" panel in Administrative Tools for all three profiles. This is not the problem though. The problem is that I can not get it to allow "Windows Mail" or "Windows Live Mail" connection to the internet. The e-mail programs will give me a "Cannot connect to server, port 110" error when it is set to block all. I set the Windows Firewall to allow the EXE files of both e-mail programs in both the incoming and outgoing rules. What am I missing please? I have no problems with IE7 or Live Messenger being allowed.


Here's the exact error message when set to block:

The server responded with an error. Account: 'mail.cableone.net', Server: 'mail.cableone.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 24.116.0.226 (24.116.0.226:110), connect error 10013', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90


Any help would be appreciated.

You need to add an exception in the firewall to allow port 110.

Hi Steve,

I added an exception for port 110 for both in and out, but when I set to block I still have the error message above. Only when I set the firewall to allow outbound for public profile again will it connect, of course. The other two profiles are always set to block in & out. I only use the public profile.

Any other ideas?
