| Guest | WindowsUpdate and most of windows utility crash Hello, I have Windows Ultimate (french) on a Acer 5680 (come withit and with Norton InternetAntivirus) yesterday, NAV asked to be re-installed to work (???) I have a error message from NAV every minute. So I desintalled it with Windows unisntaller. Now, WindowsUpdate doesn't work anymore, samething for system properties or for personalisation (etc.) In WindowsUpdate.lgo I got this message : 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Agent ************* 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Agent ** START ** Agent: Finding updates [CallerId = AutomaticUpdates] 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Agent ********* 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Agent * Online = Yes; Ignore download priority = No 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Agent * Criteria = "IsInstalled=0 and DeploymentAction='Installation' or IsPresent=1 and DeploymentAction='Uninstallation' or IsInstalled=1 and DeploymentAction='Installation' and RebootRequired=1 or IsInstalled=0 and DeploymentAction='Uninstallation' and RebootRequired=1" 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Agent * ServiceID = {9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77} 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Setup Checking for agent SelfUpdate 2007-07-04 08:57:03:412 1116 163c Setup Client version: Core: 7.0.6000.374 Aux: 7.0.6000.374 2007-07-04 08:57:03:431 1116 163c Misc Validating signature for C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir\9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77\wuredir.cab: 2007-07-04 08:57:03:438 1116 163c Misc Microsoft signed: Yes 2007-07-04 08:57:06:415 1116 163c Misc Validating signature for C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir\9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77\wuredir.cab: 2007-07-04 08:57:06:425 1116 163c Misc Microsoft signed: Yes 2007-07-04 08:57:06:431 1116 163c Setup WARNING: SelfUpdate check failed to download package information, error = 0x80040154 2007-07-04 08:57:06:431 1116 163c Setup FATAL: SelfUpdate check failed, err = 0x80040154 2007-07-04 08:57:06:431 1116 163c Agent * WARNING: Skipping scan, self-update check returned 0x80040154 2007-07-04 08:57:06:470 1116 163c Agent * WARNING: Exit code = 0x80040154 2007-07-04 08:57:06:471 1116 163c Agent ********* 2007-07-04 08:57:06:471 1116 163c Agent ** END ** Agent: Finding updates [CallerId = AutomaticUpdates] 2007-07-04 08:57:06:471 1116 163c Agent ************* The actual situaton is that I can't have Windows Update, Can change any setting in vista... | Guest | Re: WindowsUpdate and most of windows utility crash You could try this: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt, and choose Run as Administrator. Type Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll and then press ENTER. When you receive the following message "DllRegisterServer in C:\Windows\System32\Msxml3.dll" DLL succeeded, click OK. Then repeat the procedure with these commands: Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml4.dll Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml6.dll Close the Command Prompt window. You might also try going to Control Panel\Programs and Features and choosing Repair for MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978), if the entry exists. | Guest | Re: WindowsUpdate and most of windows utility crash http://www.programurl.com/emsa-register-dll-tool.htm here is a good small utility which u case use to register/unregister dlls, on the fly. if that doesnt help, maybe u should consider reinstalling norton, AND THEN using the NORTON UNINSTALL TOOL from http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039 to ensure a complete instal. then clean up ur registry with, say, freeware ccleaner. -- www.WinVistaClub.com Microsoft MVP 2007 Awardee.
