| | ports (tcp 139) how to close I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the right area for this question so I apologise. I'm running Vista Home Premium and apart from my AV and 4 AS programs, I run a few other good free security checks. One of them is MyNe****chman which today picked up an "unknown file" and after a bit of investigation I found that it related to TCP/139 and the status of this port was "listening". I have also read that this port is classed as "the single most dangerous port on the internet" due to the traffic that passes through it and hackers. Could anyone tell me how to "close" port 139 ? Thanks in advance ![]() |

| | RE: ports (tcp 139) how to close Have you turned off the built-in firewall? Unless you have you have nothing to worry about. It would block traffic to that port. Port 139 is NetBIOS (computer name) based Windows Networking. In other words, it is what clients use when accessing your computer as a server. It is obviously not needed on all computers, but the firewall would block it unless you modify the firewall settings so you should have nothing to worry about. --- Your question may already be answered in Windows Vista Security: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/047...otectyourwi-20 "GazzyD" wrote: > I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the right area for this question so I > apologise. I've not turned the firewall off and your reply has put my mind at ease - thanks again "Jesper" wrote: > Have you turned off the built-in firewall? Unless you have you have nothing > to worry about.
