| | removing mcafee McAfee security system, which came with my computer, is causing all kinds of problems with my email, so I am trying to uninstall it to replace it with something else, like Avast or AVG. However, after using computer's Add/remove program, followed by the removal tool from McAfee, I get an error message saying, 'Cleanup Failed. Cleanup is already running.' Initially, McAfee's helpline told me to uninstall and reinstall McAfee and that would solve my problems but it only made them worse. (This was after walking me thru a zillion other steps, wasting my entire morning and ruining my day!) McAfee told me I should just use their removal tool, not Add/Remove to uninstall and they also sent me a link to reinstall. So now I am trying to get rid of McAfee altogether and have not tried Add/Remove, only the removal tool they sent me, but I get that 'cleanup failed' error message. Help! What should I do now? |

| | Re: removing mcafee It's a long time since I used it so my terminology may be wrong but I'm sure you'll get my drift! Right-click the icon in the system tray, which should open the security center (or similar wording). Now stop/exit/disable any of the modules that are running. | | Re: removing mcafee I don't know if you've already solved your problem but I just now solved the same one you are having. You can stop Mcafee by going into the internet option on your internet and turning off the phishing filter. That should stop it. Sorry if this came too late for you! | | Re: removing mcafee Thanks all who responded. I got rid of McAfee (100 bucks, 3-yr contract down the drain) and installed Avast. Now running smoothly and keeping my fingers crossed.
