IE7 Protected Mode: Off

Running Vista Ultimate ...

Opening IE7, I note that the status bar reads (among other things)
"Protected Mode: Off". Alarmed, I opened Internet Options, the Security Tab,
and found that "Enable Protected Mode" was checked.

Going to "Help", I checked for a way to turn the Protected Mode back on, and
found nothing.

I then ran a complete Virus Scan, Ad-Aware Scan, and Spybot S & D Scan and
found nothing there, the computer appears to be clean.

Should I be alarmed that the Protected Mode is apparently not working, and
how do I turn it on?

Russ

Re: IE7 Protected Mode: Off

I apologize to the group for the duplicate posts. For some reason I thought
the first was accidentally deleted and submitted the second.

Is there a way the 2nd post can be deleted?

Re: IE7 Protected Mode: Off

Hello Russ,

Have you turned UAC off? If you have, that will also turn off Protected
Mode in IE.

Re: IE7 Protected Mode: Off

Yes, I do have UAC turned off. I'm the only user on this machine, and I
needed to turn it off to get Task Scheduler to start certain programs that
were blocked from starting with the computer by Defender.

Am I in any danger with the Protected Mode turned off? I guess I could
turnit back on and turn on those two applications (Karen's Replicator and
Dimension 4) I like so much manually.

I am using Haute Secure, and it seems to be working properly.
