who are these "AV security experts, anyway? I think you'll find that
there are millions of satisified users of both products. I didn't like
McAfee at all, but I DO like NIS2007. McAfee got on my nerves so much
that i ininstalled it and loaded AVG for a while until I could use my
"save $20" coupon at Costco on NIS2007. The coupon had a narrow window
of time when it was valid, which was about a 5 weeks or so after I
purchased my new laptop.

I too installed free McAfee and let it do a pc cleanup. Strangely, my
system restore points disappeared, my auto backup stopped and all of my
shadow copies were gone. I tried fixing the problem in the registry but
matters just got worse. Since I no longer had a restore point, I had to
reformat and reinstall Vista. Fortunately I had backed up to DVD just a few
weeks prior to installing McAfee so I didn't lose much more than time and
effort. I am now using AVG. It works faster and no problems. I recommend
it.

McAfee and Norton are not compatible and cause many issues with Vista as it
does with other OS's. Using something like Avast free will do a better job
and is much less intrusive.

You seem to be willing to defend Norton/Symantec at any cost, regardless of
what knowledgeable people are trying to tell you. That is your right to do so.
However, you will have only yourself to blame when you begin to have myriad
problems.

Norton/Symantec security software, like McAfee and ZoneAlarm, are bloated
applications that hog your resources. The support departments of all three
are the worst I have encountered.

The information I am giving you is based upon years of experience with all
three products. However, I respect your right to use and defend whichever
product you wish.

I have been using McAfee for years. First on Windows xp and now on Vista and
I have never had any problems with it.

Hockey puck. Maybe for you, but my company has been using McAfee for the 4
years I have been working for them with no difficulty that I know of,
including Vista. That may be because of the efforts of our IT staff, but
McAfee at an enterprise level has been fine.

Do I use it at home? Nope. I use ESET NOD32, since at home I have a staff of
one ... me ... and NOD32 has been the most painless AV solution I have
found.

SUCKS. I've had no resources issues with the apps I run on our two
laptops running NIS2007. YES, NIS2007 uses a fair amount of resources.

This is not to say there are people out there who are very happy with these
companie and their products; but, it doesn't defer from the actual fact that
they can be bloated applications that hog all your resources. CB is
highlighting a fact and nothing else.

Fact? "hog all your resources"? If that were true, my Vista
installation would be unusable because "all" resources have been
"hogged" by NIS2007. Your "defense" of CB is as flawed as their earlier
comments. If you don't like the programs, the least you could do is
offer legitimate explanations of WHY, rather than resorting to
nonsensical whimsy such as "hog all your resources". That's simply untrue.
