Vista - Modzilla Firefox- latest version. Possible loop hole for Vista

i downloaded and installed firefox because i thought it was faster than IE7.
but when i wanted to view a video i had to install a Active X to view it. So
i clicked Run. and as soon as i done that all hell broke lose. Anti-Virus
software installed on my computer, then it took over my IE 7. then the
spyware got into my Windows Directory and destroyed my Explorer.exe file.
because after i restarted the computer. Windows kept tellin me that
explorer.exe stopped working and must restart. it kept doing this. i could
not use my computer as the desktop kept restarting. (Explorer.EXE)
Microsoft reports to that its caused by a virus called RENOS.
good advice is to stick with IE7 because then spyware cant hack into your
windows files and damage your computer. STAY WAY FROM FIREFOX until this
security problem is fixed. if it had off been IE7 im sure it would off
warned me or blocked me from installing this active X control.
it cost me £50 to get my windows reinstalled and the computer running
smoothly again.

This post just illustrates that you do not understand computer security.
Any program is vulnerable. You chose to install something so you could
see a video. Was it a "free viewer" from one of "those" sites, hmmm?

In this case, it wouldn't have mattered what browser you were using,
because you allowed it to install.

IE7 on vista does protect you better than firefox from stuff that you do
NOT allow to install, at least for now.

dont blame firefox--you blew it by allowing an unknown entity to install.

Firefox doesn't use ActiveX, only IE can use ActiveX. FF with noscript
plugin would have prevented any such thing from ever happening. But you are
correct that IE7 on Vista is more secure because it runs in protected mode,
unlike FF.
