are running Windows XP sp2, and one is running XP media center. The new laptop is running Vista. I do use everything I listed on my XP desktop machines with no problem, but I only use some of them on Vista. I read on other groups that Vista has problems running quite a few third party programs or older programs, or is rumored not to need them, like with the Comodo software firewall. I do know that freeware sites do list a number of freeware firewalls, like Zone Alarm, that may or may not work with Vista, and may or may not be necessary with Vista. I added the "microsoft.public.windows.vista.security" group to the list, since they probably know the right answers to these questions.
