legacy CPL

I am trying to diagnose a problem with inoperative external speakers- when I
try to reinstall the device I get the confirmation message aking if I want to
run a "legacy CPL" whatever; what exactly is this program?

Hello,
I would suspect that the device driver has it's own CPL ( Control Panel
Applet) or it has a DLL that hooks into an control panel applet.
