| Vista Ultimate (x64?) | Windows Live Mail Does not recognize a .DOC attachment Pardon the loud crash, but my jaw just thudded to the floor. Windows Live Mail does not recognize the extension on .DOC. What!? Wait while I roll on the floor laughing. Or should I be crying. I think crying. Wow. Where in the heck is quality control in these products. Ok. Sorry.... Here's the thing... I was sent a .DOC attachment. When I tried to open it I received an error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in Set Associations Control Panel". So, I think whatever... I go to find the Control Panel, Set Associations...and surprise! ...(they were just kidding) there is no such thing. Turns out it is Control panel, Set Defaults. Sheesh....why not just say that! Ok, so I look in Set Defaults and my 'mystery' file extension .DOC that is confounding WLM does have an association. It, of course, is Word. DER!! So what the heck? ..and does anyone know what to do to let WLM know that a .DOC file is to be opened with Word? Thanks!! Elysa PS - what is up with the dorky smilies in Vista? ...and for heaven sake what is that in the mouth of the bottom smiley? |

| Vista Home | Re: Windows Live Mail Does not recognize a .DOC attachment This one rocks! solved my problem immediately in one second! Now not only the live mail can read the doc type, but I also noticed that my default program changed also! I have tried soooooo many times to change the doc default program from Notepad to Word, yes it is changed, but still was wrong and live mail still could not read the doc attachment... I guess the problem is, I need change 1) the doc associated default program; 2) the description from doc to Mircrosoft Word Document. However the 2) could not be done from start menu- default program.... And after I install the docfix.zip file ( Unable to open .DOC attachments from Windows Mail) ; I noticed it did successful changed the description from Default program from doc file to Microsoft Word Document! And it works! Indeed work like charm! I am soooo happy it saved me from reinstall the system( I already tried reinstall word, and it did not work). If any one needs this help, please do not hesitate to contact me: EMAIL REMOVED BY ADMIN Tips: I also figure out that this problem happened, becasue after I reinstall system, before I install Microsoft Word, I open a doc word using Notepad, and since then, the stupid system always use the notepad to open all doc files.... even I set Word as default program... |
