Vista - Frustrated!! Can't send email, windows live from aol

I hope that someone can help me, I am so freakin' frustrated! Anyway, I bought a new HP Pavilion Entertainment PC with Vista Home Premium. I wanted to set up two aol accounts and one gmail account into the windows mail. I attempted with the directions on about.com. It downloaded all of my folders and I was receiving mail from both of my aol accounts but I was never able to get the right combination to import any of my gmail. However, I have not been able to send ANY email out on the aol account. I read that you could not use windows mail with vista so I downloaded windows live mail. I tried again with the same result. Here is what I have tried so far so someone doesn't spin their wheels trying to come up with things that I have already tried:

For the aol: I selected IMAP, for the incoming server: imap.aol.com outgoing server smtp.aol.com as for the ports out: 587 and In 143

For the gmail: I tried it in both the IMAP similar to above. Then I tried it with the POP3 settings with pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com with the port settings of Out:465 and In:995 I checked the secure connect boxes.

I don't think I missed anything here.....but if anyone has any ideas to help I would really appreciate it!! I am dying over here!!
