Choose an application ????

Hello,

I am new to windows Vista, but have allready looked around a good bit and am certainly not a newbie on a computer. I have encountered an installation problem that just baffles me and I can't find any information on it.

I want to install the Live Essential package with the wlsetup-web.exe from the download page for windows live . That would be as simple as to run the installer and done .. Only this one pops up a small window.

Click the image to open in full size.

I have installed a lot of other programs, so it is not with every installer. I have this only with this installer.
Does anybody know what the installation executable is looking for.

I would like to add that the full package download also shows the same behavior.
I have two installations of Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and on the second machine I have no problem installing the live applications.
The simple conclusion is that the concerning Vista installation is corrupted in some way.

Your help is appreciated

Danny

Re: Choose an application ????

Is it asking you to choose an application to open the files? Or are you referring to the window that comes up at the end that asks which Live Essentials programs you want to install?

Re: Choose an application ????

It was asking me to choose an application. Something one gets when there is no program assigned to a file when you try to open it.
I have tried the things I know. UAC off, as administrator, other account... all with no result.
Then I thought of running sfc /scannow ... I had results, but far from what I expected. It only made things totally messed up. I have a ghost image safely stored, but with the corrupted issue. Since I had a messed up installation anyway I have put the manufacturers recovery back and tried installing the Windows Live application again. This time with succes.
I am now reinstalling the machine and the problem is solved. I will make a new ghost image and lets hope the issue won't return.

Thank .. !

Danny

Sorry you didn't find an easier fix! It looks like you've got things under control. If something goes haywire again, just repost and I'll jump back in.

Cheers
