Vista - Windows live messenger won't uninstall

I have Vista and I have had an older version of msn but then it would not let me sign in and said that I had to get the newer one so I installed it, and I really don't like how it mirrors the webcam image so I was going to install Windows Live 8.5 but I cant uninstall windows live

I went to control panel, programs and features, and tried to uninstall windows live essential but it won't work

did y ou get an error, or did it just not un-install? have you tried using the un-installer in the WLM folder?

No, I didn't get an error, when I click it nothing happens, I've tried so many times and it won't work.

wlm folder? I don't have one, if I go to start menu and go under windows live messenger there is no uninstall option.

what version of messenger?

edit: did you make sure that messenger was closed and that any service for it is killed. If you dont know which, try re-booting into safe mode and un-install it then

did you read the edit about rebooting in safe mode then uninstalling it there? messenger auto starts itself on boot and you cant remove it while it is running
