A problem has occurred when trying to open this message - windows live mail

Hello, recently I had ended the process of Windows Live Mail due to the program freezing up on my computer. Upon restarting the program, I could not reply to e-mails, and I also cannot write new e-mails. There may have been some e-mails that I cannot open at all, but I am not sure.

I am reluctant to delete all of my messages and to a complete 100% clean installation because I have thousands of e-mails from two accounts that need to be backed up.

I prefer an alternate solution if possible.

I have already did the uninstall from "Programs" and re-installed the software. I had deleted various registry keys that some sites had recommended to people with a similar issue.

I had posted on the microsoft forums, but have yet to receive a reply. I am hoping that somebody here can help advise me on this issue.

Have you tried repairing windows live essentials?

I tried that today, and it still is producing the same error under the same circumstances.

What version are you running currently?

Download and try installing the version from the link below:

    -> Download Windows Live Messenger 2011 (15.4.3555) - FileHippo.com

It will actually update it, see if you get any errors during the process.

I actually have that version. I am wondering if I need to to a complete clean uninstall, but would prefer not to. I do not want to erase all of the e-mail files, etc.

It seems like files uninstalled when using the Windows Control Panel, and deleting recommended registry values does not change anything. There is another file that is corrupted. Perhaps one that stays on the hard drive when using the Control Panel in Windows (through Programs) to uninstall.

If it were my account, I would install another email client there are many and set it as default. Then you have all your old mail and a client that works.

If you do not have the most up to date Windows Mail, which is Windows Mail 2011. In theory if you install, you are not suppose to lose your mail. But don't take my word for it, because in the internet world, as in real life, many things can and do go wrong.
    BTW, good luck

But I do have the up to date version. I prefer to use Windows Live Mail as my client. I would like to find a solution. I was ready to get rid of all downloaded copies, except hotmail only goes back so many days, and does not have everything stored that is downloaded to my computer.

Installing over the previously installed copy doesn't work, as I have already done that, even by uninstalling through Programs in the control panel, then re-installation.

you can uninstall windows live and your files wont be deleted. it doesnt matter if you stop using windows live, that email account is your and files and emails will still be there till you decide to use it again. when you installed windows live did you check system requirements. i have to use windows live 2010 cause my processor doesnt meet the requirement for 2011.

Indeed if using the control panel, there are files that will still be there after uninstalling, as I have done that and it still remains corrupted.

I may or may not have space to export the thousands of e-mails that are in my two accounts.

It has nothing to do with not meeting system requirements for me. There is an error when trying to open messages. I would like to see if it is possible that a file that remains besides the e-mail message files that could cause this corruption. If so, perhaps I can delete that particular file, and then re-install.

However, it seems logical to conclude that whichever file is corrupted and causing all e-mails to be unable to be opened, replied to, etc, is a file that is not generally overwritten..

oops sorry i was thinking of windows esstentials, thats has windows live too. but windows live is a email account just like hotmail. so probably your problem is that theres a file that has a virus in it. microsoft probably isnt doing their job to prevent you from getting a infect email. i had lady in austrailia send me infect email, they quarantine my account for 2 weeks getting rid of it. i kept getting message sorry were unable to meet your request at this time please try back later. for 2 weeks i got that and final logged in with email from microsoft saying they apologize for any enconvience they cause while they remove an infected file in email. that file i never seen was gathering information and randomly send my contacts emails to infect their accounts. lot of people dont join the microsoft community to get the full feature they offer, microsoft monitors how we use their products and uses it to try to improve services for us by us joining as a full member to their community. people say thats a invasion of privacy. not if you let them, unlike google who was spying and selling your info to a 3rd party.
