Install went fine......I can't I have noticed any difference..Vista seems exactly the same to me. No worse or better.
My installation went off without any problems for my desktop and laptop. But, I would have to agree with damocles, I saw no difference. I was hoping for some performance lift, but haven't seen anything yet.

Re: This is how SP1 went. Good. Let's have your feedback.

Hello again.
I tried your suggestions. Initially I disabled all startup programs and services in MSCONFIG and tried to install the standalone folder from my desktop.
This failed with the same error message as before.
I then uninstalled the NVidia drivers through the control panel and ran driver cleaner.
I rebooted and ran SP1 again and again it failed but I got a "this is not a genuine copy of Windows" message in the bottom right of the screen. It is a genuine OEM and I have the disk,
After that I thought I'd try safe mode-same again.
I've now reinstalled the card drivers and am back to where I was.
On the positive side the "not genuine" message is gone but I am no nearer to getting the service pack installed.

Any further suggestions would be most welcome and thanks for your continuing support, John

Re: This is how SP1 went. Good. Let's have your feedback.

Hi all,
I posted this earlier in the week.

SP1 & Restore Points

Now I see that I am not the only one SP1 did this to.

Quote:
william gunkel wrote... HERE
No problem just do a system restore, ah the SP1 had wiped out all but 2 of my restore points.
Last night (Sat.), my weekly clean/tune, I shut everything out.
I created a Restore Point then opened AusLogics Registry Defrag.
(run as Admin in Admin acct.) Reg. Defrag did its thing as always,
created its own Restore Point, Restart then I closed it. I then
went to Create a Restore Point "after" as I always do. You guessed it! The only Restore Point I had was SP1 !!! Any ideas ???
Also I did load SP1 @ WU.

I got the idea from this thread...
I haven't done it yet.

Make vista sp1 permanent and save disk space

Do any of you have any ideas ???

I am also going to post this at my original thread, so please post replys HERE

Thank you all for any and all help !!!

Later Ted

Although I purchase Vista 64 bit almost a year ago, I waited for SP1 before I installed it with almost no problems. The only problem I had was Windows update not working because the history file got corrupted. I was able to fix it. Also by waiting the availability of drivers and software that can run on 64 bit Vista has greatly increased to the point that I was able to update all my software to Vista compatible versions.

Thank you dmex, I have tried to install SP1 using WU but it failed at the installation stage2, then tried using standalone download after disabling my antivirus program as you have replied to another post. Now everything is faster than before but the update wiped all previous restore points( it doesn't bother me) and I am quite happy with the way the system works, Thanks again.

Re: This is how SP1 went. Good. Let's have your feedback.

For me, SP1 installed without problems. The PC seems to be faster now... BUT.... now I have a problem with Switch Users function. Whenever I switch users, or log off and log on another user, this second user account does not work. A few other people are having the same issue. Details here: Vista SP1 Breaks Switching Users ability

It always happens to the user account being logged on second, so it's not user account-specific.

Re: This is how SP1 went. Good. Let's have your feedback.

Running Ultimate here and updated from standalone SP1 pack without disabling any process or service ( including AV ). I'm only user - administrator.
Asus P5B-DeLuxe - E6420 - Corsair PC-8500 @ 1066 Mhz ( dual )

Vista Partition: 25 GB. Total RAM: 2 GB

1) 45 minute complete install process - no issues !

2) System runs slightely better: faster reactions and programs open faster too.

3) Free HD before: 11,2 GB
after : 8,1 GB ( Too much, isn't it ?!? )

4) Free RAM before: 1,1 GB
after: 1,3 GB

5) No substantial processor utilization changes

6) Only problem: Windows Media Player won't run: says wmploc.dll wrong version ( 6344 instead of 7000 ). No solution yet. Somebody help ?

My sp1 installation went like yours did but it seems to have turned off some of my manual services, including my print spooler! I turn it on, but the next time I boot it is off again! Any ideas?

installed SP1 a few weeks ago...not 1 single problem...much quicker now, transfer large files and start/shutdown times are faster.

SP1 installed without any problems via WU. Noticed that security center no longer loads at bootup. RAM usage went down 4-5%. Seems more stable, maybe a bit faster. File transfers are considerably faster.
