Before I go on whining, here are the specs of my laptop :
Vista Home Premium Processor : Intel pentium Dual Cpu T2310 @ 1.46GHz 1.47GHz Memory : 2038 MB Hard Drive : 120 GB System : 32-bit Most recent updates : KB 946609 (optional ), KB 915597 ( auto ) My Confusions : 1.) A week ago Brink said SP1 was not available through Windows Update( WU ), while at the same time .Joe indicated it was available in website and WU. ( I read those threads .) 2.) Someone said something about driver not upgraded and therefore it was not offered in the WU for those users. Does that mean I'm one of those? 3.) .Joe said that there are 2 prequisites for installing SP1 (it's from the same thread I mentioned .) a) First prerequsite includes updates to the servicing stack, which I never saw it in WU. b) 2nd includes updates required to reliably install or uninstall the service pack, which I never saw in WU either. 4.) We all saw the " horror stories " posted in this forum regarding problems during installing and after installing SP1. It got me worried. 5.) I still do not see SP1 offered in WU, optional or otherwise. Will someone please clear my head ? |

Hi David,
This link may help you out. You can download and try the standalone SP1 installer. Why SP1 may not be available for you and how to get it Shawn |

The Standalone is a larger file where the one in Windows Update is smaller, but they both install the same Vista SP1. The Overview was just a reminder of this for folks that have trouble with large downloads.
You can look here to see why you may not have the SP1 available yet in Windows Update to see if you can get it, or try the standalone SP1 installer. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates Hope this helps, Shawn |
