Actually i have mouse, keyboard and the other 2 external hard drive all working fine. As long as i plug this one in, the Vista failed to install USB to IDE driver. I'm really reluctant to uninstall my SP1. My box is a bit odd, IMAC 20" running on Vista Ultimate SP1 |

Just got a new machine with VISTA HOME EDITION PREMIUM, 32 bit, encountered the very same problem and after searching on the web for weeks with no solutions, stumbled on your post in Vistax64.com. Did the change on infcache.1 but have questions regarding oem files. I assume the change to -bak is on files only and not on folders, correct? Secondly, there are a bunch of them; there are five unnumbered .dat files and I have numbered files 0 - 49 with three files for each number; does the change apply to all types of files (.inf, .cat, .PNF) or is it applicable only to .inf and .PNF? Either case it's going to be a lot "doctoring" and a reply from you would be appreciated. Last edited by hdbg62; 04-18-2008 at 08:02 PM. Reason: typo |

I don't know enough about it to contradict the above but the problem I had only occurred after installing SP1. The choice that Terrykim Jin gave me was try this and if it doesn't work uninstall SP1. I would assume from that the fix doesn't always work. However it worked for me and has continued to work so I think it's worth a try. I renamed everything which began OEM. There are loads of them and it is very boring and I have no idea what it is doing really but, as I say, it has worked for me. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Cheers, John | |||||||||||||||
