Canon prints pink after SP1

Hi All, Just discovered a new problem after installing SP1.
I have a Canon i9950 inkjet printer. It's an A3 photo printer and has produced superb prints since I got my new PC with Vista 64 HP about 6 months ago.
I went to make some prints yesterday and have wasted about 10 sheets of expensive photo paper.
All my pics came out predominantly pink, very pink.
Every time I switch the printer on Vista recognizes it as new hardware, searches for a driver and installs it.
I don't seem able to get round this.
I have about 5 different software apps to print from and tried them all- Photoshop, Lightroom, Canon DPP etc.
All produce pink pics. Some, like Picasa report printer offline and won't print at all.

Could anyone can help me with this? Cheers, John

It gets worse. Just typed a load of stuff for work tomorrow and tried to print it and I can't. I just get "printer not responding" or "printer offline".
When I switch it on Vista treats it like new hardware, spends a bit of time finding and installing a driver, lets me know it's succeeded and then "not responding"
New drivers from Canon site won't install. This thing worked perfectly before SP1. John

Hi John,

Try this - it may or may not work. Disconnect your printer from your PC (I am assuming that it is connected via USB). Restart your PC and when your machine has stabilised to the desktop, reconnect your printer. This should cause your system to reinstall the driver as though it was being initially installed.

Thanks Dwarf. I tried that this morning and did manage to get a couple of documents printed and for a moment thought the problem was solved. However tried to print a photograph and it came out bright pink.
As I said I've tried to reinstall Canon drivers and they won't install. Also tried altering the colour on screen by reducing the colour temperature until the picture is very blue but it still prints bright pink.
I've run the printer with Vista 64x for 6 months and it has produced excellent results.
I've had it 2 years and it has now been superseded by a newer model but it was top of Canons range and cost 500 GBP when I got it.
This was the first time I'd used it since SP1 so it's definitely the cause. Funny old service pack. Every time I turn round I discover some problem although Vista does seem a bit faster (still not as fast as XP).
MS are offering free support for SP1 problems so I've mailed them but I'm not hopeful.
Thanks again, John

Hi John,

I understand that you had a bit of success after following the instructions in my post, and that you have managed to print off a couple of documents. Can I presume that these documents were just text and that you printed them out in black & white? I think you can see where this is leading - you're going to kick yourself if this is the case. I am not familiar with your model of printer, but does it have separate ink tanks? Is it possible that these tanks (except for the pink-coloured one) have run out of ink?

Hi D. I wish! No. It has 8 inks and when I was printing the B&W documents the usual Canon printer box came up. My yellow is low but all the others are nearly full as I bought some from amazon a few weeks ago. I'm a keen photographer but since all these problems with Vista and issues with a graphics card (also Vista related I believe) I've been too busy trying to sort my computer out to take or print photos.
In fact it's been several weeks since I actually enjoyed just using the computer rather than scanning forums and trying to sort it out.
Perhaps I should have gone for the brand that "just works" but they were too dear. I imagine they have problems too anyway.
On the other hand MS seem to be really shooting themselves in the foot lately and Vista has been a flop in terms of corporate takeup.
They seem monolithic and untouchable but I think there days are numbered with online apps etc. Who knows. I tried Ubuntu and it was fantastic in every way but no Photoshop and the gimp is a poor substitute.
Oh well. Thanks for the input, John

I would delete the drivers you have uninstall SP1 reinstall SP1 and reinstall the drivers. SP1 seems to be screwing with the drivers on all peripheral devices, mice, printers etc

HI, I hope I can help.

I have a Canon MP970. I'm not experieincing any problems with mine but I think I may be able to help you.

With regards to the printing problem to me it sounds like blocking print head. Which happens with inkjet printers if not used every day. Especially the colour print head. Rather than performing a "deep clean" which tends to use a lot of ink. You might want to try cleaning the print head with lint free cloth and some warm water (no soap). In a worse case scenario you might need to renove th ink cartridges and clean out the spongy filters that sit between the cartridge and print head.

If that doesn;t work then try posing your problem at this amazing inkjet printer forum for some expert advice:

Inkjet Printer Forum / Ink Jet Refill Forum

With regards to installation...make sure your printer is set as default. The advice above from Dwarf should have worked for you, you may want to try a different USB port and try Dwarf's suggestion again.

Clevo and everyone.Yes! I've become so used to issues with Vista SP1 and this seemed to coincide with other problems resulting from its installation that I had overlooked the obvious.
I ran a nozzle check and no photocyan showing at all. Ran the cleaner and hey presto, back to beautiful photos in natural colour.
So thanks to you and everyone who tried to help.
I did have a for real driver problem but I've now managed to get them to install but the pink cast was an ink flow problem.
Sorry to have wasted peoples time and many thanks, John

PS Clevo, that inkjet site is excellent, cheers:D
